Clydesdale horses are a majestic and impressive breed, known for their strength, size, and striking appearance. Over the years, Clydesdales have played many roles in human history, from working in fields and pulling heavy loads to serving as symbols of national pride and advertising mascots. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at some of the most famous Clydesdales throughout history.

  1. Duke - Duke was one of the original Clydesdale horses used to pull beer wagons for the Anheuser-Busch brewery in the late 1800s. He was known for his impressive size and strength, and his image can still be seen on Budweiser beer cans and bottles today.

  2. Jim Key - Jim Key was a famous performing horse in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He was trained to perform a variety of tricks, including spelling, math, and even painting. Jim Key was a beloved and respected member of the entertainment industry, and his legacy has inspired many other performing horses over the years.

  3. Molly - Molly was a Clydesdale mare who served in World War I. She was trained as a "doughboy horse," which meant that she was responsible for pulling heavy artillery across the battlefield. Molly was known for her bravery and dedication, and she became a symbol of hope and perseverance during the war.

  4. Barney - Barney was a Clydesdale who served as the mascot for the University of Southern California's football team in the 1940s. He was a beloved member of the USC community, and his image can still be seen on the university's merchandise today.

  5. Bud - Bud was a Clydesdale who became famous for his role in Budweiser beer commercials in the 1980s and 1990s. He was known for his striking appearance and his gentle demeanor, and he became a beloved mascot for the Anheuser-Busch brewery.

  6. Phoenix - Phoenix was a Clydesdale who served as a police horse for the New York City Police Department in the early 2000s. He was known for his courage and his ability to remain calm under pressure, and he became a symbol of the NYPD's commitment to protecting and serving the community.

  7. Clydesdales of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have used Clydesdale horses for ceremonial purposes since the early 1900s. The horses are used to pull the RCMP's musical ride, which is a choreographed display of horsemanship that has become a symbol of Canadian pride and heritage.

Clydesdale horses have played many important roles throughout history, from serving in the military to starring in commercials and performing on stage. These magnificent creatures have captured our imaginations and our hearts, and their legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come.
